This was Jake's and Andrea's tune-up for the Philly Marathon and it was my tune for a significantly less significant event, the Cold Turkey Trot at City Creek on Thanksgiving Day.

My splits basically tell the story: 5:01, 5:34, 5:25, 0:38.   Losing 33 seconds in the 2nd mile of a 5k race on a track is obviously less than ideal.  I went out with Jake at what I thought was a comfortable pace but after two miles my body and hip wasn't happy and I started losing significant ground.  The second mile was the biggest struggle and last was a bit better because the end was in site.  Overall the race was as painful as I suspected, exacerbated by my genius start, but still a super fun time.

Thanks Jake and Andrea for organizing and the chocolate milk and Allie for the excellent pics.

Sounds like fun. The wind was like 40 mph right?

Good run today Fritz. 5Ks pretty much suck when you haven't done much speedwork. Keep fighting the good fight against that hip!

Rob it was basically a class 2 hurricane.

Hey, at least you went for it. Nice job.

nice job, fritz, and nice seeing you today. i think that was an impressive run given the amount of actual running you've been able to do in the last few months. i hope your hip held up okay, and i hope all goes well with your long run tomorrow. it would be great if you could take a shot at CIM.

as for the pics -- i also do custom mugs, mouse pads and full-size posters if you are interested.

Could you wrap me in something billowy?

From Fritz on Sat, Nov 12, 2011 at 21:37:58 from 67.182.226.25

I think Allie can do anything.

Correction on my post: after two laps, not two miles, I started to die.

Rob, even at it's worst, this wind didn't compare to the last 16 miles of the mesquite marathon last year. I still have nightmares about it and it has almost been a year.

Hi Fritz,

It has been awhile. With the wind and fast start I think the fall off is understandable. Jake makes it look so effortless it is easy to get sucked out by him. Have fun in City Creek.
