That's a quick pace. What pace do you run your long runs? Also, I was wondering if you knew anything about the New Balance 890 shoe. I have never run in a shoe intended to fit a forefoot strike. I am more of a heel striker. I bought them with the plan to run UVM this Saturday with a lighter shoe but I am a bit concerned as to how my body will react to the new shoe. I have been feeling a bit of achilles tendinosis. Any advice?

My longer runs have usually been around 6:30. I think that is probably faster than I should be going because it usually takes a couple of days to recover from them. I don't know anything about the 890s but it looks like they are about 9 ounces, which isn't too light. If you still feel some cushioning and they are comfortable I think you should be fine. If you aren't sure, then I wouldn't risk it and where the shoes you are used to. I have strained my achilles a couple of times but I think it was due to running up hills on my toes. Does the achilles hurt on flat or downhills? UVM doesn't have much uphill. Stretching the calves and ice is all I can think of. Good luck!

Wow that's quite speedy... Sounds about right though considering your marathon pace is about a minute faster. I was reading that long runs should be about 60-90 seconds per mile slower than race pace. I was just curious. Thanks for the advice. Good luck at the half!

What do you think of the newish trail there? To hit that pace going up the hill near 215 is smoking!!!
