Didn't know what to expect today considering I haven't run much at this pace in awhile.  So I figured I would be content with about the same time as last year which was a 15:52.

Went out with Jake and went through the first mile in about 4:50 (slight tailwind).  Jake started to pull away and oddly the 4:50 pace became unsustainable. :)  Second mile was 5:12 and finished with a 5:17.  Coincidentally that was the same pace as my last mile in last week's half marathon; obviously an indication that I went out too fast--Jake's to blame, right? :)  Since I have never run a sub 15:30 5k on an honest course I promise in the next 5k I run I will start at a 5 min pace and try to run even splits.  Regardless of the less than perfect pacing, I felt like I put in a good effort and this will only help me build speed for the races to come.

Congrats to Jake who made it look effortless, Rob for winning the master's and beating Jon's linear estimate of 17:40, Emily B., Devra, Allie, and James for his 3rd place finish.

Warmed up 4, cooled down 2 then headed back out for 6.5 in the wrong direction, apparently.  This was the second week in a row that I missed the awards ceremony.  Last week I was freezing in the car and didn't realize they had started and today I was dumb and kept running.

24 seconds faster than you ran two years ago to win this race!

Let's keep you consistently healthy all year so you can have that breakout year we all know is in you.

WOW!!! I had no idea you were racing YET AGAIN this week. NICE!!!!

Maybe your goal for your next 5K should also include being present at the awards ceremony!!!

Congrats! :) :) :)

Sounds like a fun race. You guys are putting in some sweet times this winter. Glad I'm missing these races!

From Jon on Sat, Jan 28, 2012 at 22:43:23 from 98.71.175.203

Nice job, Fritz. Sounds like a good day for a lot of FRB-ers.

From Jake K on Sat, Jan 28, 2012 at 22:44:11 from 67.177.21.60

Great run today Fritz. I was glad to have some company for the first mile and I think if you keep this whole "staying healthy" thing going, its not going to be long until we're neck and neck for a lot longer in these races. These last 2 weekends have been a great start to the year for you.

From Andrea on Sat, Jan 28, 2012 at 23:15:51 from 67.177.21.60

#1 Great race, great time! You have gotten a great start to the year. It's only January.

#2 I bet there's a little residual fatigue from the half marathon last week.

#3 We need to get you to a sea level 5k. Las Vegas May 12?

From Superfly on Sun, Jan 29, 2012 at 11:51:41 from 74.211.21.81

Good job on a solid push one week after a great half. My legs wouldn't have taken it today.

From Fritz on Sun, Jan 29, 2012 at 14:20:31 from 65.100.192.74

Rob/Teena - Yes, staying healthy and attending awards ceremonies are high on my list for goals in 2012.

Andrea- considering how much I dislike 5ks, although I know they are good for, I am hesitant to travel too far to run one. I am sure if I hadn't run the half marathon the week before I would have run sub 15 :)....or not

Another amazing January performance, and this is your capability when you are still not fully healthy? I foresee a great year of racing for you.

Congrats!

Nice race, but I have just one question? Why do I get in trouble for using :)'s on your blog?

From James on Sun, Jan 29, 2012 at 20:35:25 from 174.23.146.70

Nice race. I was even more impressed with your half last week in St. George, very strong. Keep it up!

From Fritz on Sun, Jan 29, 2012 at 20:50:39 from 97.117.74.99

Rob, Was there a rule against :)'s on my blog? If so, it expired with the new year. I need the :)'s to prevent injuries.

From Rossy on Mon, Jan 30, 2012 at 01:13:43 from 66.53.208.81

Again, nice race Fritz and great talking to you. Sounds like you are developing a good race schedule and Ogden is going to be tons of fun! I'll see you around.
