Ran through Tanner Park, south on Wasatch to the 7-Eleven and back through Holladay.

Averaged 6:50 for first 5 through Tanner Park (Kinvaras don't work well on snow), 6:05 average for last 14.  Total average for run was 6:17.  Felt relaxed.  Must be that extra sleep.

i agree -- kinvaras are definitely not snow friendly.

So if I just sleep a little more will I run a 2:20?

From Fritz on Sun, Jan 08, 2012 at 18:02:15 from 74.82.64.160

I used to think it was trivial but like most things, I was wrong. I think it's very necessary for optimal training (Jake is probably a perfect example). Spoek with Geln yesterday and decided to join your team. Oh boy.

Except for it's not "my team" as I don't really get anything from them. The "store credits" they said I'd get for "appearing on the podium" never materialized.

Better luck to you. Or perhaps they aren't really interested in Masters running.

I only wish there were a masters team here but nobody seems interested on both sides it seems. It would benefit everyone involved if there was a good size masters team. It would produce a pack training effect like the Kenyans. When I ran with both Sasha and Wasatch Athletics I improved by leaps and bounds in 06-07.

Kinvaras are definitely not made for snow. I nearly took a spill about 3 times on my shakeout run last night as the ground was starting to freeze up a bit.

I used the think the same thing about sleep (that it was all mental), but Andrea converted me... and now I'm sold on the recuperative benefits of massive amounts of sleep.

From Andrea on Sun, Jan 08, 2012 at 18:50:05 from 67.177.21.60

Yup, now we're working on the benefits of low mileage days and massage! A much harder battle...

The group I have been running with in north utah county are all sub-masters 32-39, I become masters in April. Having a group of guys, that are sub 2:40ers, and a terrific bunch of people to run with, has helped tremendously. Running in a pack has been awesome. ScottKeate started running with some guys from this pack last year and dropped about 20 minutes off of his marathon time in about six months to hit 2:34 at St. George. I don't think starting the week on 3 hours of sleep is going to help me very much or feel very good as the week goes by.
