These stairmaster work outs force my left hip to work harder which makes it super tired. That along with hip abductors and clam shells should be making it stronger, right? But for some reason nothing seems to be changing.

I've had that feeling as well. Perhaps the muscles that are being targeted are particularly elastic from not being used and from being over-stretched by the overpowering-opposing muscles and it takes them a while to loose that elasticity.
