I was doing a decent job avoiding the gym on weekends but yesterday's hammy tweak forced me indoors again.  Managed a fairly strenuous and sweaty workout on the stairmaster followed by some stretching, hamstring curls and hot tub.  Unfortunately a guy who obviously wasn't in hurry monopolized the only powerful jet so the hot tub was worthless. I will have to double the time tomorrow.

"The 2013 Super Bowl may set a record for viewership, but it’s unlikely that it would set the mark for the best-rated program of all time. On Feb.28, 1983, the series finale of “MASH” was seen by over 50 million households, which helped register a 60.2 rating."   MASH???  I would have never guessed that.

Most clinical evidence I've read recommends heat prior to exercise but not immediately after and not on a fresh injury. Do you think that using the hot tub after your workout is causing additional swelling and inflammation in the muscle?

MASH got a higher final show rating than LOST!

i do not understand MASH.

sorry about the hamstring issues.

Agree with Andrea. When I was having issues with my hip/hamstring last year, my PT had me heat before exercise and ice after. Although, hot tub before a sweaty workout does not sound appealing at all!

I would agree that heat after an injury is inflammed definitely doesn't help and probably does more harm than good. In this case the stairmaster doesn't hurt my hamstring and I am really only using the jet for its massaging effect, not for the heat. If I can't use the powerful jet I don't use it. So when I do use the jet does the heat offest the benefit of the massage? Not really sure and I think that would also depend on how inflammed the injury is. Of course the ideal situation would be an ice bath with a jet but I have never seen one of those. :)

Excellent cross-training session, Fritz. Animal as always!

Yeah I don't know...but I do know that it's ridiculous that gyms don't have ice pools!

Fritz-

I too love the strong jets of the hot tub for soft tissue stuff! So much so that I even go in there when it's filled with a bunch of old men that say sill stuff to me. Good times!

Here's to a great week!

(Btw, I loved MASH!) :)

Great work on the stairmaster Fritz. Hope that hamstring is getting ready to finally calm down.
