Only accomplishment of the day is that I didn't walk. I even failed to get a photo with Meb. Despite my terrible performance it was still a memorable experience and it was great to see Scott zip by me at mile 25. He ran an awesome race! In hindsight, I might have started too quickly but that wouldn't be the first time and I slowed it down after 3. I got into somewhat of a groove running with a big pack for about 4 miles from 7 to 11 but after that it all fell apart. I was dropped from the pack and couldn't muster up anything to latch on to seemingly hundreds of people who were passing me. Every ounce of energy was left trying not to walk up Heartbreak Hill and from there I dizzily and very slowly found my way to the finish. It could have been worse I suppose but it should have been a lot better. 'Til next time.

Half: 1:11:30, Finished 2:36:46. That sums it up pretty well.

I refuse to do the math for the 2nd half split :)

Sorry about the rough experience, Boston is a tough course (on a tough day too!). Saw you started off strong but could tell something was going on with your splits. Valiant effort to finish off the race with class.

Fritz:

I think one accomplishment was getting to half way point in 1:11:39 in those conditions. That shows you are on the mend.

One thing to realize is that when it is cold and rainy, when you crash you often crash hard - the fuel that could have somewhat saved the day is being used to stay warm. Especially when body fat is low. That would be one time a runner with a little bit of padding would have an advantage. I am remembering the spectacular crashes in St. George 2008.

Get some sleep, patiently rebuild your health, and the good performances will return. If you are ever in the Utah Valley, feel free to join us for a run.

Fritz, it was good to see you and Scott on the course even if it was slippery when wet. Yall looked good. Then again, you always have the grit. Great job today under the circumstances. Always fun to see you race! MIH

Thanks Jeff, Sasha and Spencer. Weather and other variables aside, I was probably only in 2:26 to 2:28 shape for this race. I certainly didn't pace myself that way, and suffered badly as a result. I will have to "MIH" next time.

Congratulations on not walking Fritz! That is truly an accomplishment when you hit the wall. I'm glad you were able to make the best of the situation and enjoy the Boston experience. We all know what you are capable of and surely this will just light your fire to dominate the Utah scene moving forward.

Spencer - you were in Boston??

From SpencerSimpson on Fri, Apr 24, 2015 at 19:16:44 from 72.215.236.226

you did fine brother.

Yes, Rachelle. Went to the marathon monday game at 11 and then stepped outside to watch peeps at mile 25 come by. It was surreal to run it last year and spectate the next year. Cannot wait to do that race again soon. 2 years? :)MIH

Thanks Rachelle! It's unfortunate that we didn't cross paths while in Boston. I just read your inspiring story on KSL. I am so glad you are doing well and enjoying the moment.

Boston is a funny course. It's trashed me twice.

A 1:11 half. Noce.

Sorry it didn't turn out how you wanted. I have no doubt you will come back stronger than ever.
