Met at SHP and ran 16 miles with Kevin, Jake, Allie, new Adam and Rob for part.  My quads were still feeling it on the downhills but felt pretty good otherwise.  Great weather and good company for running.

Gym afterwards: 350 abductor reps, calf raises, planks, and butterflies

The word must have got out about the powerful jet in the hot tub because the last 3 times I have tried to use it an old guy was in that spot.  Bummer.

That really flew by this morning. Good run. I think you were really smart about how you approached the recovery after the 50K. Good job being patient and really giving the body a chance to recover.

I am sure that would have been a miserable run if I did it alone. Thanks for putting that together.

After many years of trial and trial I now realize that I feel a lot better and recover much faster if I just cross train after big races and wait until my body is ready to run again. Even if I pushed it and ran sooner I don't think I get much out of those runs, I would prolong the recovery and I am convinced that I can actually maintain my cardio fitness better by doing something like biking where I can get my heart rate up while at the same time letting muscle tissues heal. Of course I don't think I should take weeks off from running and race is different but when it comes down to it the difference between starting back 2 days after and 5 doesn't harm a thing and I feel much better giving myself that extra time.

It is so easy to start looking forward to the next race and want to jump right back into the training. It's good to hear what the "fast guys" do to recover. I appreciate your perspective and lessons learned, Fritz.
