As much as a despise 5Ks this was one of the more enjoyable races. I was consisently 10 seconds slower per mile this year compared to last, but still finished 5th. A highschooler, Garek from East High, ran a super impressive race  and finished in around 14:50. Cooled down with Albert then watched Nicolai win the boys division of the Kids K. I am sure he went out in a sub 6 and averaged about a 7:30 pace.

So how does it work with a highschool kid winning the race? Bypass the money and goes to 2nd place? You running Des News on Friday? hope your health is improving, we need the old Fritz back!

It was great to see you Spencer. It's probably been a couple of years...crazy how time flies. Glad we could catch up for that 30 seconds :)

Ben, I am not sure how they handled it this time. I remember a few years back when Jamaal, who was in high school, accepted the money and a few people threw a fuss. Don't quote me on it but I think amateur's can accept money only as long as it goes towards paying for race entries, travel and equipment expenses.

I was planning to run the 10k but now I don't think I will be in town. Which race are you running? Awesome job at Hobbler a couple of weeks ago. Looks like you are running very well.

Ya I was talking to Riley this morning about Draper days and he said the same thing you said. They can take money as long as they put it towards race, travel and gear. So you were spot on.

Last moment I decided to run the Marathon so we will see how it goes....

Good luck in the race. At least the weather has to be better than last year. Just try not to set a 5K PR in the first 3 miles that go straight downhill. As far as I know Taylor Farnsworth and Kotter are also running it.

From Ben VanBeekum on Tue, Jul 21, 2015 at 10:52:37 from 199.190.170.30

Did Kotter and Farnsworth get comped in? Don't see there names on the entry list? Ya plan is to take it even thru the race. Problem is I dont know what is even right now.

From Fritz on Tue, Jul 21, 2015 at 10:57:44 from 72.250.223.132

correction. Farnsworth switched to the half. I suspect Kotter got a comp entry so maybe that is why he isn't listed.

Well cool might not be a lonely run after all. I have to ask though, what type of shape is Kotter in, any idea?

From Fritz on Tue, Jul 21, 2015 at 13:21:32 from 72.250.223.132

Hard to say because he never races. But if I had to guess I suspect he is in pretty good shape considering he was asking me to join him on 20+ mile runs two months ago. Plus he doesn't want a repeat of last year.
